synopsis
Ymelda lives in a world populated by invisible spirits that inhabit the tall trees and springs of the Caribbean. A singer born in Haiti, she was baptized in the Voodoo religion, before emigrating to Martinique and then to Paris. 35 years later, she began a musical creation and an initiatory journey to Togo in search of her mystical roots.
Director
Laure Martin-Hernandez is a documentary film writer and director who lives and works in Martinique. Born in 1970 in Clermont-Ferrand, to a French mother and a Spanish father, she first worked as a radio and print journalist (RFI, Libération, NRJ, RCI, RFO, etc.) before training in documentary writing and directing (Docmonde, Fémis). Her interests are ecology, artistic creation and women's and social issues in Martinique and the Caribbean. She has received several awards (FIFAC, CinéMartinique festival, FIGRA) for her film Scolopendres et Papillons (2019) co-directed with Vianney Sotès.
